With the eighth round of the World Endurance Championship in Bahrain, one of the most difficult years in team history ended for Project 1 . The season held so many huge challenges for the team, but despite those tests the year concluded in a grand finale in a perfect form - a brilliant victory.

"We have already been through a lot, but in 2020 everything was turned upside down," says team founder Hans-Bernd Kamps. “We owe the whole Project 1 family including friends, colleagues and of course our business partners that we were still able to race and even win. Special thanks are due to our crew, who have worked so tirelessly for the success of the season. "

The efforts of the Project 1 drivers on the Sakhir International Circuit were also tireless: Egidio Perfetti and Jörg Bergmeister delivered a flawless performance in the #56 Mentos Porsche creating  the basis for success in the desert.

The decisive manoeuvre was made by Larry ten Voerde, who took the lead in the last of the eight hours of racing.

"Wow! What a race and what a conclusion! ”The Dutchman cheered. “Our strategy worked. And despite an involuntary collision early in the race, our hour still struck. I would like to thank the whole crew for the hard work and for the opportunity. "

The success is also a figurehead for the youth development of Project 1. “We prepared Larry for professional sport over many years. This year he won the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, the Carrera Cup Germany and now another world championship race. Of course, that makes you very proud, ”said team boss Axel Funke, who is also responsible for the future through the  Project 1 Speed Academy.

The keyword: youngsters.  With Dylan Pereira, another aspiring motorsport talent who celebrated making his debut in the endurance world championship. Together with Ben Keating and Jeroen Bleekemolen, the Luxembourger drove the sister vehicle to a creditable sixth place in Bahrain. The trio had the pace for a podium position, but a safety car phase cost them valuable time and several positions.
